Wow! Things have changed! I joined a Tour du Mont Blanc hike almost 40 years ago. It was hut to hut hiking, but the dining rooms provided 4 or 5 course meals. There were nine hikers and two female guides for the group I joined. They made all of the arrangements for us. We did sometimes sleep in barns with rows of beds on which we placed our sleeping bags. It was an amazing breathtaking experience I have never forgotten.
