We went in springtime and found that it was quite nice in terms of weather. The only caveat is to avoid Golden Week in late April as it’s a very busy time of year. In terms of trip planning, my first stop would be the Kumano Travel Community Reservation System. They will do all the inn and luggage transfer booking for you at no additional cost. The most impressive accomplishment is figuring out the Japanese version of your names for the hotel reservations! We are in Japan now and are just showing up and hoping to get tickets on site for a concert and a baseball game as we got stymied/blocked from registering on-line because of this requirement on the concert/event registration sites. Sites that have English versions have been fine but the sites we’re translating via google translates hit that roadblock.
Honestly, it took a whole afternoon and evening plus two computers and two phones to get those bookings done! We couldn’t believe the number of questions asked and the seemingly odd requirements just to book a hotel room. Have a great trip! We’ll be there soon.😄
