Notes from the Road: Most People Spend a Day Here; We Booked a Month
Plus join us at the Go Overseas Summit
This month’s newsletter comes to you from the beautiful, exciting and somewhat gritty city of Budapest. We’ve been here for a few weeks and are amazed at the contrasts. On one hand, we’ve found ourselves impressed by the grand historic buildings on both sides of the Danube (in fact, we’ll bring you along for a cruise in an upcoming video).
At the same time, our very central location gives us an eyeful of the other side of Budapest: rundown buildings, bars and lots of blokes enjoying a cheeky weekend. To illustrate the point, our very pleasant and comfortable Airbnb overlooks the Foxtrott Gentlemen’s Club, which fortunately seems to have gone out of business a long time ago.
Plan your own adventures
If our travel stories have inspired you to start planning a new chapter of life, you might be interested in the upcoming Go Overseas Summit on July 10-11.
This is a free virtual conference hosted by International Living and featuring an exciting mix of experts from all over the world. Topics include funding your life abroad with an online side gig or second career, low-cost destinations, overseas investing, real estate, retirement visas and more.
In fact, a couple of those experts will be us; we’re sharing the biggest lessons that we’ve learned after spending almost four years living as nomads. You can click here to learn more.
Is a month in Bratislava way too long?
Bratislava is the type of city where tourists usually just stop by for a short visit. It’s got a compact old town; you can cover off the main sights in a single day; and—to make it even easier—it’s just a short train ride away from Vienna. For all these reasons, we were wondering if we had made a huge mistake booking an entire month.
What’s next
From Budapest we head to Romania, specifically to the charming town of Sibiu. We had two options to get there. We could either fly in relative comfort for a hefty peak season price or spend two days on the train for a fraction of the cost. To both our surprise, Gillian won this round so train travel it is. 😜
We’ll be sharing the highlights and inevitable lowlights from our 9-hour journey to Romania on our Instagram Stories. Make sure to join us there for all the fun.
See you on the road!
Stephanie & Gillian

So fun to see you both exploring Eastern Europe! And congrats on your speaking roles at the IL Conference! You two are my favorite travel bloggers, I’ve learned so much from your videos and am taking these learnings to plan our own life of slow travel - starting in a 2-3 years hopefully :)
